Mom Monday – Megan N.

Another Mom Monday! Today, I am featuring my friend Megan. She also has a baby Theo’s age, and is a talented graphic designer. She’s real funny, and inspired me to get a Peloton!!

Name(s) and age(s) of children:
Maisie 15 months

Biggest parenting fail:
Oh man….how much time do we have? While there have been many. I think one that sticks out to me is one day cutting Maisie’s nails and clipped her finger on accident and that sucker bled for forever. That was so stressful and I felt like a terrible parent. I called the pediatrician and I think she thought I was certifiable for calling. Needless to say, she recovered just fine.

Favorite concert:
I am an emo kid a heart. My favorite concert hands down was Incubus….I literally know every word to all of their songs…My husband was mortified to be sitting with me while I was jamming out with all the other 30-40-year-old emo adults.

Favorite travel destination:
Chamonix, France. Honestly, the most beautiful place on earth and their food is *chefs kiss*

You’re at home doing chores. What’s on as your background noise?
The Taylor Strecker Show or Bravo

Describe your ideal date night.
A nice steak house and a good bottle of wine then being able to sleep in the next day lol.

What has been the best/worst part about being a mom?
The best part is the overwhelming amount of love you feel for this tiny human. Also, they are pretty hilarious and entertaining. The worst part is your life does a 180 the minute your baby is born. I always thought people were being dramatic when they talked about how life-changing it is to have a child. Then I had Maisie and my life was turned upside down which wasn’t an easy adjustment for me. I remember crying at my 6-week OB checkup saying essentially “What have I done?!” My OB was so sweet, she told me she went through the same thing and felt better when she went back to work because and I quote “at least I knew what the hell I was doing there.” She also prescribed me Zoloft LOL.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Charlie Hunnam
Jason Momoa
Ryan Hurst

What is your most unpopular opinion?
I CANNOT WITH THE BACHELOR

Mom Monday – Meredith A.

Today’s Mom Monday features one of my oldest friends! We met in August 2001, in Freshman Geometry. Which means that we are coming up on our TWENTIETH year of friendship (what?!). We have been through a lot together and I have so many cherished memories. Meredith just had her first baby, and I cannot wait to meet her sweet girl.

Name(s) and age(s) of children:
Eleanor, 2 months!

Favorite concert:
Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour with my sister, circa 2011. We wore the craziest outfits we owned, got verrryyy tipsy, and danced and sang our little hearts out. I can’t remember having that much fun in a long time!

Favorite travel destination:
Currently dreaming of Italy. After we went in 2016, my husband did some digging and found the name of the town outside Naples where his family is from. We would love to go there someday and bring our little bambina!

You’re at home doing chores. What’s on as your background noise?
Friends, Seinfeld, or Schitt’s Creek. Those are my comfort shows!

Describe your ideal date night.
Cocktails at our favorite bar The Owl’s Tail, then sushi at Sushi Yasaka. Home and in bed by 10pm!

What has been the best/worst part about being a mom?
The struggles I had with breastfeeding, and ultimately the decision to stop, has been by far the hardest thing so far. Even though I know that “fed is best”, and that switching exclusively to formula was the best thing for our family, I still feel sad and guilty about it all the time. However, I am slowly making peace with it, as I see my own mental health improve, and see her happily growing, developing, and thriving every day. That is probably the best part! It’s so amazing to see her do things for the first time. Something as simple as learning to grab a toy with her hand may not seem like a big deal, but it’s like, that’s the first time in this tiny human’s life that she has ever done that! Also, all the smiles and cooing lately just melt my heart.

Outside of being a mom what are you most proud of?
Probably my education/career. I have two engineering degrees and have worked as a medical device engineer for 10+ years. Last year, my company began ramping up production of syringes and needles that would be needed to administer the Covid vaccine. I had the opportunity to work on a few of those projects before I went on maternity leave. I feel good knowing that I had a very small part in the vaccination effort!

If your life was a movie what would be the title?
Eat, Drink, and Be Mere

What is your most unpopular opinion?
I seem to be the only woman alive who feels this way, but Lululemon leggings are overrated. So many influencers rave about how they are the best leggings for pregnancy, “just size up!” they say. But I ordered them THREE sizes up and still found them uncomfortable over my bump!

Mom Monday: Lauren C.

For today’s Mom Monday, I have Lauren, a friend of mine who has a daughter just a few months older than Theo! She has the cutest girl gang and is a stay-at-home-mom also. Her family is building their dream home, so you should give her Instagram a follow – she has amazing taste!!!

Name(s) and age(s) of children
Kendall is 3.5 and Keira is 1.5

Favorite concert
I love live music! For years, concert tickets have been a go-to gift for me and my husband; that is something we’ve really missed with the pandemic. My favorite concert I’ve been to was the Taylor Swift Reputation show! Second would be Maroon 5 & Neon Trees.

Tell me something good that happened to you recently.
My husband surprised me with a Peloton!

Describe your ideal date night.
I love the classic date: dinner and a movie. With preferably sushi or Mexican food!

What has been the best/worst part about being a mom?
It is the most challenging thing I’ve ever done, and that is very much a double edged sword for me. Some days the challenge of being a mom is the best, and I feel like I’m on top of the world! I feel very proud of who my daughters are this far.

Other days, it feels so challenging like I just have no more to give that day/week/etc! Being a mom really pushes me mentally to grow and learn more, but other days can be mentally exhausting.

Outside of being a mom what are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my relationship with my husband. We have been together ten years (married six), and we have grown so much together. The way we communicate and push each other to be better individuals is something I am incredibly proud of.
