Mom Monday: Kara C.

I am not sure if you’ve noticed a Mom Monday theme as of late, but I know the funniest moms. My friend Kara is an amazing writer, the best mom, and downright hysterical. Need proof? Check out her blog and get back to me. Also, she’s like, really tall, which as a really short person, this is a personality trait (LOL).

Name and age of child:
Dylan Kate (17 months)

Biggest Parenting Fail:
I have a ton, but one that comes to mind is fairly recent. Dylan was standing in her toddler tower and I was looking in the fridge, hoping food would appear. I was looking for far too long and eventually, heard a thud. I turn around and she is face down on our wood floor, crying. Dylan dove head first out of one of the openings in the tower about a foot or so off the ground. I kept a close eye on all her all day, and she seemed fine, but that was definitely my bad. That could have, for sure, been avoided.

Favorite Concert:
Any outdoor country concert. I love people watching and expensive beers.

You’re at home doing chores. What’s on as your background noise:
A podcast. Anything Bravo, comedy, and health related. I love: Heather McMahan’s podcast, Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald, and That’s So Retrograde.

Tell me something good that recently happened to you:
I’ve started writing a ton, and that has been great. Truly, without the pandemic I don’t know if I’d be writing as much. It has made me more creative, keeps me in the present, and keeps the mundane interesting. I’d truly love to write a book, the topic is unknown, but its been good to discover a hobby that I thoroughly enjoy, is just for me, and I’m fairly passionate about.

Describe your ideal date night:
It would definitely take place during the summer in Minnesota. My husband and I are getting ready while drinking pre-game beers, we wait for the Uber on our porch. The Uber arrives, and we get dropped off at one of our favorite restaurants. We have two (maybe three.. we aren’t driving) cocktails (I am drinking a spicy margarita or a Peroni) on a rooftop while waiting for our table, we eat dinner, and are home by 9pm.

Best/Worst part about being a mom:
Best: The tiny laughs and huge hugs. Every morning I walk into Dylan’s room, and that little angel gives me the biggest smile. She’s so excited to see me. That makes a Monday feel like a Saturday.
Worst: The ongoing anxiety can be overwhelming, the constant decision making, and even without COVID, being a mom can be boring. For example, I straight up, do NOT want to read ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?’ ONE more time.

Outside of being a mom, what are you most proud of:
The relationship I have with my husband. We started dating at 17 and growing up with him has been so fun. We’ve navigated a lot of our life together and built something pretty incredible. He’s extremely detailed, and an executor. He runs his day one task at a time, and I have a completely different approach. Watching him live is sometimes the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. We approach problems from different angles, and see the world from different lenses, but somehow, we agree on the important things.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Dan Levy was the first person that came to mind. Haha. Dan Levy.. call me.

Mom Monday: Hannah G.

Today’s Mom Monday features one of my mom friends from the North (Canada, that is). Hannah is hilarious and has been such a good friend to me throughout our pregnancies, and now that we have toddlers (!). Hannah also runs an online shop called Little Yellow House, where she thrifts and up-cycles hidden treasures. Her inventory is SO cute, and she has such a great eye for design. Follow her shop on Instagram!

Name(s) and age(s) of children
Sidney, 1 year!

Favorite concert
One Direction

Favorite travel destination
I despise traveling but we did our honeymoon in NYC 2 Decembers ago and I loved it.

You’re at home doing chores. What’s on as your background noise?
The Office always.

What has been the best/worst part about being a mom?
The best part is seeing the pure happiness come from something so simple. Like throwing a ball up in the air or doing a karate kick. The worst part is the guilt. Do I love him enough? Do I play with him enough? Is he okay? This isn’t fun. Should this be more fun? It goes on and on.

Outside of being a mom what are you most proud of?
Weirdly my home. I have a tiny little house but my husband and I worked our butts off to get it. My stuff isn’t flashy but it’s cozy and meaningful. I had a friend comment recently “I don’t know why but I just feel at home here” and I actually cried. It means a lot to me that people feel comfortable here.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Sidney Crosby. Most people thought I was joking when I said if he’s a boy I wanted to name the baby after him. Lol oops.

What is your most unpopular opinion?
Cheese is NASTY.

Mom Monday: Kristen G.

Today’s Mom Monday features my friend Kristen! We met in my ~Facebook Mom’s Group~ and have bonded over all things diaper bags and Peloton. She makes the cutest personalized denim jackets for kiddos. Read on to out more info about Kristen and her small business!!!

Name(s) and age(s) of children
Madison Rae (16 months) and Demi (7 year old beagle)

Favorite concert
Dave Matthews Band. I am ALWAYS listening to DMB and most people do not get it. I had to cancel my concerts this past summer and cannot wait to go back!

Describe your ideal date night
My ideal date night is not going out AT ALL. I love ordering in our favorite foods and watching Netflix together BUT I will say that because of quarantine I cannot wait to get dressed up and go back out again.

What has been the best/worst part about being a mom?
The best part about being a mom is her looking at me and not having a care in the world, just being so happy. She knows I am there to take care of her. She truly is my BFF and little partner in crime.

The worst is the worrying about every little thing since I’ve never done this before! Everything is new, so many questions. Beyond thankful to have my “mom group” on facebook aka my BFFs.

If your life was a movie what would be the title?
“The Girl at The Dunkin’ Drive Thru” I drink so much Dunkin’ iced coffee it’s embarrassing! I will never give it up either. I am TRULY that meme that says “My biggest flaw is thinking I need a caffeinated beverage every time I leave the house”

What is your most unpopular opinion?
Honestly I have so many. I could never listen to another Taylor Swift song again and I would be fine. Please do not hate me. I also do not want to bring my child to Disneyworld. I absolutely will one day like every other mom but have you seen the parents there? Misery!

Here is some more information from Kristen about KG Jackets!

I started KG Jackets because like most people quarantine was really getting to me. I was buying so many things for Madison online – purely out of boredom. I had followed a few accounts that made custom jackets and I thought to myself – I really have nothing but time here – maybe I can make them myself. I posted in my mom group about them and got a lot of great feedback so here we are! I think I have done close to 100 jackets which I really cannot even believe. In November/December I was working on a jacket almost every night.I have always had a regular 9-5 job and this is something so fun where I can be creative and do whatever I want. It is so rewarding to see the little minis in their jackets. It melts my heart everytime! Also it has been awesome connecting with a lot of other women who started a small business during quarantine, so many girl bosses out there!

Mention this blog post, and get free shipping on your jacket order!! DM Kristen at @kgjackets to order!
